Growing up in a family of environmentalists and outdoorsmen, I spent time hunting and fishing while also learning about sustainability’s importance.
Fly fishing permitted me extensive time to visit the watersheds of the Rocky Mountains West and the SouthEast United States. I felt a camera did not capture the essence of my experience with nature, I found painting provides the creator the freedom to more effectively transmute their experience in a physical form.
At an early age it was Albert Bierstadt’s work that captivated me most, his technique and richness of colour were able to transcend a landscape from reality into something magical. It is this essence I aim to achieve in my work. Art gives the creator the freedom to reimagine light and space, to capture a landscape’s ephemeral aura.
I use nature’s grandeur to champion sustainability, delve into and raise awareness about global crises, and explore the depths of my subconscious.
My process incorporates photography, thoughtful drafting, architecture, 3-D modelling, and oil paints. My practice explores the nexus between modern technology and traditional techniques. When creating an image, I first visit landscapes and select the ones that resonate most with me in terms of energy. Then, I aim to create a painting that captures the landscape’s aura through a surrealistic, more colourful lens.
I am an artist based in London. I am in the process of completing my Graduate Diploma in Art & Design at the Royal College of Art and will be pursuing an MFA at City and Guilds of London Art School.
